A rapidly growing community, Lacey is home to a diverse population, one that is attractive to both young people and the retired.

With a strong base of health care facilities - including nearby St. Peter Hospital and its satellite clinics, Panorama city retired community, and several other retired facilities either established or being built - Lacey has become a popular place for the over-65 set.

Many retirees who have served their country at Fort Lewis have found Lacey, with it's parks, lakes, championship-caliber golf course, and outstanding health care an excellent place to settle.

Lacey boasts seven lakes and several parks within it's city limits, and the town is also next to one of the jewels of the Washington Wilderness - the Nisqually River.

The setting has become increasingly attractive for families who work in Tacoma or even Seattle, and want to live in the luscious Nisqually Valley, the farmlands of South Lacey, or the deep woods north of town.

Home to St. Martin's College, run by Benedictine monks, Lacey has a strong educational tradition. The college, along with the new South Puget Sound Community College satellite in Hawks Prairie, has brought in a stream of young people, who add enthusiasm and vigor to Lacey's diverse community.

The city, which lies directly to the east of Olympia, is home to over 300 home based businesses. Many of those businesses are geared to serving to high retired population in Lacey, but the statistics speaks more to the Lacey resident's desire to be their own boss, and live life the way they want to live it.
